Solo Exhibition ‘Compression Loss’ at Galería OMR
For their solo exhibition 'Compression Loss’ at Galería OMR Troika will bring their site-specific installation ‘Limits of a Known Territory’ to Mexico City. The exhibition will include a new series of sculptures shown alongside ‘Limits of a Known Territory’.

The presented works stem from Troika’s continuing interest in reductionism and emergence. Utilising various methods of analogue ‘slicing’ - both to forms and objects and intangible phenomena - the works collectively investigate the notion that a whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
‘Limits of a Known Territory‘ explores, through various physical shifts, the divided reality between subjective point-of-view and objective truth. A space is flooded with water and numerous streams of water drip from the ceiling, behaving in unfamiliar and illogical ways: some are frozen in time, others run slower, faster or in reverse. The visitor is invited to navigate the space by walking over stepping-stones scattered across the floor.
The work acts as a filter by which reality is a simulation and technology is the lens through which we experience and interpret the world. By negating the natural and independent momentum of water, breaking streams into distinct, disparate instances, Limits of a Known Territory references the constructed authenticity which now defines our age.
‘Limits of a Known Territory’ will act as a visual and theoretical framework for a new sculptural series of works, which take iconic figures and forms and deconstruct them into separate ‘slices’ through a digital process. Using mythical figures reproduced throughout history such as Hebe, Troika’s new sculptures usurp a linear, reductionist viewpoint of knowledge, replacing it with a fragmented, oscillatory one. These themes are continued in accompanying works ‘All Colours White’ and a series of dice tapestries which are a new extension of Troika's dice works, and their first incorporation of weaving.
Each employing deconstruction and separation in their own way, the works in Troika’s solo exhibition will explore the contemporary deviation away from the understanding that the world can only be comprehended through data and scientific intelligence, and only advanced through empirical evidence and mathematical treatment.
