Welcome to Troika.

18.09.08 - Troika at ExperimentaDesign in Amsterdam.

The SMS Guerrilla Projector is featured as part of the Sunday Adventure Club’s urban hack toolkit at ExperimentaDesign Amsterdam.

The exhibition is a celebration of urban pioneers: citizens who through a personal passion have initiated collective activities in public space. Completely self-organized they claim a space and hack, mod and change it to fulfill new functions – whether it’s guerilla gardening or add-hacking. The projector embodies the ethos of the movement, allowing the ordinary man to “hack” spaces by projecting his own message on any surface ripe for reclaiming. A response to over-regulated cities providing little room for citizens to play freely, conduct experiments and express their opinions.

Experimentadesign Amsterdam is part of the new design festival Freedesigndom, with venues located between the Dutch cities of Amsterdam and Utrecht. The exhibition runs until 2 November. This year’s theme – Space and Place -– explores the city as a landscape, which has been shaped and will continue to be shaped through human intervention such as design, architecture and engineering.

The first copy of our forthcoming book 'Digital by Design' arrived today on our desks, and although you will have to wait until the end of october to find it on the shelves, it is with great pleasure that we can announce that the book is indeed terrific!

'Digital by Design' surveys the fusion of digital technology, art and design, presenting innovative objects and art works that are playful, disruptive, functional, critical, radical and responsive.

We will post more information about the book very soon, including full synopsis and contributors' list, as well as dates for the official launch.

In the meantime, many thanks again to all the contributors!

25.04.08 - Troika for Blood on Paper: the Art of the Book at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

The V&A is currently hosting a fantastic exhibition on books produced by artists - from books as subjects in art as well as illustrated texts. Leading artists of today and the recent past that are represented include Louise Bourgeois, Anthony Caro, Damien Hirst, David Hockney, or Henri Matisse.

To coincide with the exhibition, Troika was asked to customize Graham Green's Stamboul train, a story on a train travel from Ostend to Istambul. We integrated in the front cover a extra-slim led display on which scrolls the names of the towns in which the train stops, and which happens to match the book's chapter titles.
