Technology is a driving force in contemporary life. Today, digital change does not only happen onscreen, but impacts everything from social encounters to ecology.

Troika explores how new technologies affect our relationship with the world around us, through ambitious works that cross disciplinary boundaries. Working across sculpture, film, installation and painting, Troika’s work contemplates our experiences of and attitudes towards new technologies. Undertage takes shape as an elaborate ecosystemic fiction centred on the idea of salt, in the form of flint, possessing its own agency.

The book is part story-book, part research document. Various forms of text, research, process documentation, artworks and experiments are woven together to provide a holistic view of Troika’s practice and encourage new readings of their work.

With texts by Eva Wilson, Mark Rappolt and Ariane Koek, ‘Untertage’ provides a comprehensive insight into Troika’s work, illustrated with numerous reference images, and presented in the form of an alternative history of a world which asks the question: What if Salt were a sentient being able to sense and influence their environment? How would this change our understanding of the world?
