Time seen as red green blue

2018

Time seen as red green blue. Ideas pertaining to the domains of time, reality, photography and augmented reality are conflated in one installation.

A structure of 4 transparent pillars lined with photographic film gradually changes colour from red to green to blue depending on the viewpoint.

The work demands the ‘active perception’ of the viewer within carefully manipulated geometrical and spatial conditions.  Composite colours emerge from the layering of the photographic film within each pillar creating the illusion of a gradually changing colour field.

While the colours ‘Red’, ‘Green’ and ‘Blue’ refer back to the colour make-up of the virtual world, the choice of using analogue film, traditionally used for DIA slides, betrays Troikas interest in the historical evolution of image-making techniques and is indicative of an interest to work with a medium that has a physical bearing in the real world.
